When people ooh and aah over a particular bridal portrait of mine, I am the first to tell them that it’s is not entirely down to me. The portrait is a 50/50 joint effort, between me and the bride, with each party deserving equal credit for the end result. As a photographer, I’ll supply the creativity, the lighting know-how and direction. But without the bride’s energy, patience and willingness to run with my ideas, we’re not going to get the gorgeous pictures which we both want (and which she’s paid for). The process of beautiful wedding portraiture is a collaboration. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You get out what you are willing to put in. As a photographer, I’ll bring everything and the kitchen sink to the table, you can be sure of that. But in order to get truly breathtaking results, my clients have to do the same.
