It really tickles me when photographers feel it appropriate to comment on another’s pricing in a disparaging way. Particularly when the price point in discussion is set high. It just reeks of insecurity. Empty vessels do indeed make the most noise. My take on pricing is simple. Firstly, get good at what you do. As in really good. That in itself could take years. Alongside that, do your own research – get know your market at every level, know the particular client your aiming for and get to know your competitors. And then you’ll be in a position to confidently set a price which reflects the quality of your work. Do not be afraid to charge what you feel your work is worth! If you’ve done all the above, and you’re savvy with your marketing, the market will decide. The right clients will find you. And the wrong clients will just walk on by.
